Vietnamese Tea Kit
This is a perfect tea kit to give as a gift or for your own enjoyment. We like the IKEA tall cup and the teaspoon-style brewer for ease of use and the fact that it brews a larger volume than a typical teacup.
The Jasmine Green Tea is the equal of any Jasmine Green we have tested from several countries. Tam Chau is one of our favoite tea producers and this tea is stong enough to brew three times yet very free of bitters for a fresh green tea. It has the perfect balance of Jasmine scent -- not too much or too little. This tea brews a green-yellow color, clear and pleasing in hue.
The Flower Oolong is vacuum-packed in foil and its preparation is superb... it consists of whole leaves folded over and over until they are small irregular shapes that unfold during brewing to create a flower-like pattern in the cup. This Oolong has three taste stages - the initial taste is bold and sweet, then the taste on the palate is very rounded and mild. The aftertaste is a little floral and leaves a craving for another sip. This is actually a perfect tea to use as a chaser poured into a spent glass of Vietnamese iced coffee, right over the ice cubes. This is a coffee house traditon that only seems to make sense when you have such a delightful tea as a chaser. This Oolong is very lightly aged, producing a golden-green color when brewed.
Kit Contains Tam Chau tiny whole leaf Jasmine Green Tea (100 grams), Tam Chau Flower Oolong (100 grams) in a carved hex-shaped gift box, a tall IKEA black tea cup and a stainless steel teaspoon-shaped brewer, packed in a white corrugated tab-lock box.
Brewing Recommendations
- Amount: 1 tsp per cup
- Temperature: ~170 degrees / green, ~190 degrees oolong
- Duration: 2-4 minutes
Serving Suggestions:
We prefer brewing the Jasmine tea for under 3 minutes, and the Oolong
for 4-5 minutes.
